Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD!

Before we begin lets start off with an interesting fact that many of you probably do not know!

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

The word “God” in Genesis 1:1 is plural. See the below:

  • “God =  0430 ‘elohiym {el-o-heem’}  in STRONGS Concordance.

Elohim = “Gods” which means more than one being! From this we now know that the word “God” means there is more than one individual in the Godhead. In this context, we now understand that the plural word “God” or “Elohim” in hebrew is referring to the three distinct persons; The Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

(Please note: The plural word Elohim in this context is in reference to the three individuals of the Godhead. Each of the individuals are together ONE GOD. You will need to read the rest of this blog to understand this concept. )

The Trinity or better known as the Godhead is one of the most misunderstood concepts about God. Let’s dwell in scripture and find out the truth !

Colossians 2:9 “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”

2 Corinthians 13:14 “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.”

As most Christians are aware, God is one however God is three distinct individuals. Allow me to explain, take light for example, science tells us that light is made up of three primary rays. They are clearly distinct from one another and have their own unique functionality. Without one of them light would not exist. The first wave originates, the second wave illuminates and the third wave consummates. In the same way we have God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Each are distinct individuals but work as one in agreement with each other. God the Father is not God the Son nor God the Holy spirit and vice versa. See the image below:

trinity explained

The word “Trinity” cannot be found in the scriptures. But the concept of the Godhead can be found from the beginning of scripture till the end. Lets have a look at the Word of God. Carefully read and take note of the following verses:

Genesis 1:26  “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:…”
Genesis 3:22  “And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil:”
Genesis 11:7 “Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

You can clearly see from the above that God is speaking about the Godhead. He said “Let us” make man “In our image”. He didn’t say “In my image”. So from the above verses we can clearly note that we were made in the image and likeness of The Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Let us now look at one of the best verses on this topic:

Matthew 3:16-17, “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:  And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

In the above verse we can note that God is three distinct individuals. We have Jesus on Earth, The Father in Heaven, and the Holy Spirit descending from the Heavens. They are all in different areas at the same time. Amazing. Clear evidence from the Word that God is three.

Please know that each individual in the Godhead has different works and purposes. God the Father cannot do what Jesus must do and the Holy Spirit has a work in our salvation that neither God the Father or Jesus can do. For example, Christ’s purpose was to die for the salvation of Mankind, it was Christ’s purpose to come to Earth and live amongst man. Although Christ experienced all this pain do not think at all that God the Father or the Holy spirit had not experienced the pain with Him.

Think about it like this:

  • The Father provides for us.
  • Jesus died for us.
  • The Holy Spirit guides us.

All three as noted earlier have different operations, purposes, abilities and powers. See the verses below in regard to this:

1 Corinthians 12:4 “Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.”
1 Corinthians 12:5 “And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.”
1 Corinthians 12:6 “And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.”

How amazing is that? All three come together to work as one. That is one true God. Three distinct individuals The Father, Son and Holy Spirit working as One Pure and Holy God.

This has been kept short because there is so much to speak about. It is a very big topic. Once you take hold of the whole truth about God you will understand how beautiful He is.

I will in future add to this topic in a different blog post. I do, however, hope that you have gathered a little understanding about our God. God is beautiful and has offered His son for your salvation. If you haven’t accepted Jesus into your heart already, I pray that you do so today !

God bless you,
Mathew.
